Artist Extraordinaire | Abstract Expressionist

| Donald Localio was born in Princeton, New Jersey. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1978 from the University of Houston, and then his Masters of Fine Arts in 1980 from the Maryland Institute of Art. |
| Localio's evolution has been natural, more a product of the artist's emotions and developing sensibility than a learned attempt to be fashionable in the current art scene. Donald Localio is a dedicated and gifted artist, whose work, in the tradition of the great abstract expressionists he admires, has the ability to delight, mystify, and affect deeply. Joe R. Arredondo, Jr. Texas A&M University |
| "Donald Localio looks very much the Abstact Expressionist. Yet, the sketches he makes for some paintings rule out a strictly automatist Inspiration, and at times he seems closer to Kandinsky than the later American masters. ...but he appears also to compose consciously, favoring an oval or elliptical shape integrated into a field that is generally of contrasting color. ...In short, it's as if the artist hears his paintings as a composer would his music, and indeed it's not difficult for the viewer mentally to translate the shapes into the sounds of different instruments..."
